MV Cable: Common Constructions & Types

ConstructionsCTS (Copper Tape Shield) cable: A common power distribution cable featuring a semi-conducting layer around the conductor and a helically applied copper tape shield.

URD (Underground Residential Distribution) cable or JCN (Jacketed Concentric Neutral) cable: These terms are interchangeable and describe an electrical power distribution cable designed for underground supply (direct burial) applications. The cable has a central conductor surrounded by an insulating shield, then a layer of concentric neutral wires, and finally an outer jacket.
TypesMV-90 Cable: Rated for operation up to 194°F (90°C).

MV-105 Cable: Rated for operation up to 221°F (105°C), often used in industrial applications where machinery and other sources can result in higher temperatures.
